Directions to the Site

Ottawa and Toronto teams will take Hwy. 401 west to interchange #278 at Kitchener. Follow Hwy 8 west through Kitchener, then join Hwy 7/8 west to Stratford. Once in Stratford, Hwy 7/8 becomes Ontario Street upon reaching the city limits. After the second set of lights (2 blocks) turn right on Queen St. and proceed to the river. Teams can unload at The Festival parking lot at the end of Queen St. on left side of street til 10 a.m.

For London teams, Hwy 7 becomes Erie St. once in Stratford. Keep going till you reach Ontario St. Turn right and at the second street past the third set of traffic lights turn left on Queen St. Proceed straight to the river. Teams can unload at The Festival parking lot at the end of Queen St. on left side of street till 10 a.m. All teams must check in at the registration desk at the tent upon arriving with waivers signed and roster lists.

 

Parking and Set Up

 

Setup Friday or early Saturday. Check in with Rotary Personnel on Friday for a place to setup.

YOUR CAR WILL NOT BE ALLOWED AT THE DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL! There is no on site parking.

All streets will be closed and barricaded between Ontario St to Lakeside Drive and Nile St. to Queen St. on September 14 from 6:15 a.m. until 9 p.m. No cars will be permitted access to this area unless you live in this area. If area residents have a concern, they are requested to contact the Stratford Police Department.

Sites can also be set up on Friday but teams are requested to check in with Rotary personnel before erecting your tent.

Parking for this event will be at the Zehrs. Zehrs is located at 865 Ontario Street, Stratford, On , N5A 7Y2. To drop off gear, please go to the corner of Queen Street and Lakeside Drive. A shuttle service will be available from 6:15 a.m. until 7 pm on Sept. 14 for participants and spectators.
The shuttle goes to the Festival Theatre parking lot on Lakeside Drive.

Team participants are encouraged to arrive on site well in advance of their scheduled races.

Entertainment

The Opening Ceremony will occur at 11:00 am with the traditional dotting of the eye ceremony and the breast cancer ceremony.

Entertainment at the event will be provided. To be announced in July.

Race Format

A one day recreational Hong Kong style dragon boat races for awards.

Race Course Length – 500 metres or 1640.4 feet
Number of lanes – 4
Lane width – 10 metres or 33 feet
Number of boats – 8

Race Classes

Mixed Division –

  • Mixed Teams must have 16 to 20 paddlers with not less than half the paddlers female

Breast Cancer –

  • A Breast Cancer team consists of 20 Breast Cancer Survivor paddlers and a female drummer. The steersperson may be male and does not have to be a Breast Cancer Survivor

Women Division –

  • A Women’s team consists of an all female team. The drummer must be female.

Community Event Hospice Teams –

  • A Community Event Hospice Team is a team that only participates in The Stratford Rotary Dragon Boat Festival with Stratford and Perth County residents. The team requires a drummer and a maximum 16 paddlers with not less than half the paddlers female.
