September 5, 2019: District Governor.

Head Table:  Our President Brent Shackleton, invites all major chairpersons, to join him at the head table.

Today at Rotary: We had the pleasure of learning about Rotarian Dr. David Dagleish PhD. as he presented his classification talk. In his presentation David talked not only about his full and varied career in the field of computers (which he put to use in all types of applications) but he also spoke of his wife who has been working in the health services field , their three sons who each experienced a different health challenge while growing up and his sister who was challenged with allergies.

Although born in Montreal, he moved with his parents to Etobicoke at about the time that the Avro Arrow had been cancelled and just after the Maple leafs won the Stanley Cup in Montreal. He was able to attend a special school that offered a music program. A program that he feels gave him benefits in whatever career path he happened to be following. We soon learned about that career path with its many stages. He started post secondary education in Engineering at U of T graduating after computers were fed with punch cards but while the consoles were still connected to mainframes.

David described a number of examples of computer application projects that he worked on in which he contributed to solutions to how computer programs were able to solve computation and data collecting tasks for companies and how to make one company's program interface with another company's program.

After being employed by companies like IBM. he was ready to be a consulting computer engineer. To enhance his professional skill he completed an MBA at York University. (HIs wife did the MBA route also as it was what she needed in her career path in health services.)

David's work drew his attention to the problems that corporations had with planning, He enrolled and completed a PhD  with emphasis on planning and he was able to make a contribution in this area. (David just may  have the opportunity to help our Rotary club in this area as we do a 5 year plan).

David and Janet enjoy travelling, especially to Scotland where they had family members to visit. They also enjoyed trips to California, Hawaii and Europe.

David was introduced by John Wright and thanked by Charlene Gordon.
