January 24 2019: Heidi Culliton, “Re-Classification”, Gerry Culliton will introduce, and David Braye will give thanks.

Head Table:  Our President Paul Roulston, invites, Gerry Culliton, Brent Shackleton, Ron Shaw, Gordon Sherwin, Pat Shewen and Paul Siberry, to join him at the head table.

Today at Rotary:  we welcomed to the podium our new member David Braye who gave us his classification talk. David is the Pastor of the Stratford Salvation Church congregation. In this role, David has responsibilities with the many programs that the Salvation Army has here in this community as well as the responsibilities of the congregation.

David has been a Pastor with the Salvation Army for 35 years. He grew up in Newfoundland with parents who served the Salvation Army. He attended elementary and high school there before moving to other locations in Canada with his parents, doing University in Winnipeg, and living in other western cities, then moving to Ontario - Whitby, Peterborough and Ottawa.

In Ontario, work with youth was important to David. As well, music - the traditional music of Salvation Army bands was important to David.  In that regard, he hopes to find musicians in Stratford to start a return to the music tradition here.

The most powerful and thought-provoking part of his talk was his ``Tale of two Men`` William Booth and Paul Harris. These two visionary leaders - one the founder of the Salvation Army and the other the founder of Rotary each secured the visions for their organization so that when these founders were gone, the organizations prospered and grew to become two of the world`s greatest humanitarian resources. The core values of the Salvation Army are Hope, Service, Dignity and Stewardship. in Rotary it is Service Above Self.

David has two adult children, one boy and one girl.
