Guest speaker Rotarian John Lawrence with his wife Lorna speaking on the Chatham Rotary Club initiative on Clean Water.

This Week:  Our speaker today was John Lawrence, a member of the Chatham Sunrise Rotary Club. He spoke about their club's "Clean Water project". Both John and his wife Lorna are University of Guelph graduates and they take this excellent presentation on the clean water project to numerous audiences.

John began his career in Chatham-Kent with an agricultural business and later served as a director at St Clair College. in retirement, he has served as fund raising chair of the local YMCA and as a director of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation.

In his presentation, John focused on the idea of clean water for living. He asked us to think of our connection with water in our lives. In this way, we can become better connected to water and gain respect for water in all aspects of life. As a result, we become more active in protecting water. hopefully we would be more careful to avoid pollution by chemicals for example and do more to reduce water waste in our lives.

John invited us to share our water stories as part of the "Watermark Project" and he distributed forms to help us do this. It is a way to help us connect with water.

To encourage change in our lives it is best to focus on the positive examples and not the negative stories. Examples of positive stories can be found at www.cleanwaterforliving.com

John has a vision of Rotary taking a leadership role in water. Rotary has the benefit of being able to unite leaders, exchange ideas and collaborate. In a topic so vital to the life of the planet and everyone in it, Rotary could be the key to moving the population to take care of life giving water.

Our speaker was introduced by Charlene Gordon and thanked by Pat Feryn.
