Ryan Erb--who recently was awarded a national award for a United Way employee of extraordinary distinction--informed the club that the Block Parent Program has been ended. With Ryan were David Fangrad, his wife Pip, and David Stewart. David spoke about the program and his involvement as a police officer. The program began in Stratford in the 1970"s  and provided a safe place for not only children but also seniors. The involvement of businesses added an important element to the program.

The speaker for today's meeting was Bob Malcolson  whose topic was-- The " Pursuit of Mons ". This was a government sponsored 100th anniversary  to remember the efforts of our military men and women during WW ! .Bob is a member of an Ontario Regiment known as the "D Day Dodgers", and was part of 32 members from across Canada who participated in the Pursuit of Mons..Stops on this tour included Hyon, St. Julien,, Ypres, Vimy Ridge, Passchendale, St. Symphorien, Soigenes, and Mons. Plaques and wreaths were left at each site in order to help Canadians to " NOT FORGET".The St. Symphorien ceremony honoured the death of George Price, a Canadian who was the last person to die during the war--at 10:58 am--peace was officially announced at 11:00 am.
As an aside, I was with the Listowel High School choir in 1994 when they sang at Grosebek cemetary in Holland to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Holland by Canadian forces. I mention this to reinforce the importance of efforts that remind us to NOT FORGET.Our European allies have ensured that their citizens, particularly the youth, remember the sacrifices made in order to preserve our freedoms.

Bob was introduced by Clark Mitchell, and thanked by Katherine Hahn.
