Today at Rotary: Today we had the pleasure of learning about our own member Bob Malcolmson as he delivered his classification talk.
Bob Malcolmson speaking about his Classification in Corporate work Policy and Planning.
Bob began his talk by noting that he was a charter member of Canada's first Rotaract club charted in Oshawa in 1969. His family originated in The Orkney's in Scotland, then to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Oshawa, Oakville, Midland, Georgetown and now Stratford. He and his wife Manny have daughters Megan in Stratford who is director of food services at Laurier U;  Rebecca Cronin (and husband Chris and family) Georgetown; Heather Barecishs (and husband Chuck and family) at Bothwell). Rebecca works at Sick kids while Heather and Chris and family farm 3000 acres at Bothwell. Then there is a delightful dog named Tinkerbell at home.
Bob emphasized that he is now retired, but his life was (and still is) very much a life of involvement with community organizations and community causes.  This, along with his career with Thompson News papers meant that Bob was 'in the news' quite a bit. In Halton Hills (Georgetown), Bob was a leader in the United Way, Chamber of Commerce, Heart and Stroke, Cancer society, Agricultural Society and Kin Senior Christmas Tour of Lights.
As a Kinsman, Bob was heavily involved in their Cystic Fibrosis work. As National CF Chair he travelled over 45000 miles speaking at Kin zone and district meetings and two national conventions.
In Chamber of Commerce work, Bob was active in chambers in Georgetown, Brampton, Oshawa and greater Toronto (where he worked as a Government Policy Analyst).
Our speaker was introduced by Kevin Silver and thanked by John Wright.
