May 16, 2019: Andrew Chung (Honour Student Banquet)

Today at Rotary:  Our speakers were Ron Dobson and Chris Leberg from the Stratford Arts and Culture Community Council. Their topic was the Stratford Arts and Culture Collective which consists of over 30 community groups that are the heart of this community`s production of music, dance, theatre etc. (outside of the Stratford Festival). The web site is www.stratfordacc.com.

Guess speakers Ron Dodson and Chris Leberg on SACC.

Chris spoke first and she covered the history of the council. It started at a meeting in November 2016. This was just after the meeting that announced the plans for the new Tom Patterson theatre. At that time the big decision was ``Do we need such an organization as this ``

Remembering that the target group represented: over 4000 Stratford citizens involved; collective audiences of around 71000; 1000 volunteers; $2.3 million economic impact; a large number of workers; The need was clear.

The key goal was to see the arts enhance health, wellness and learning for all citizens.

Ron`s part of the presentation was to look to the future possibilities of what might be accomplished. He mentioned a wish list that included an auditorium to hold 450 to 600 people, a studio space and exhibition space.

There will be a feasibility study this summer with hired consultants. The grand trunk centre (The hub) and also such sites as Knox Church and other community of faith sites that could come available for consideration may be part of this study.

Much of what Chris and Ron covered in their talk is also covered by the web page www.stratfordacc.com and is worth a look.
