Rural Urban Dinner - THURSDAY March 27, 2025

Featuring Dan Needles: Even a Chicken Benefits from Rotary's 4-Way Test

The Rural Urban Dinner is an annual celebration of fellowship between residents of our city and the surrounding county that began over 90 years ago.

People will gather for a social hour before dinner and enjoy tasting the complimentary beer, wine and cheeses on offer. The evening continues with a bountiful buffet of locally sourced and prepared foods and live music.

Following dinner, we will feature an interesting speaker, draws and door prizes as the event draws to a close.  One of the highlights of our Rotary year.

This year's speaker is Dan Needles, best known as the playwright behind the popular Wingfield Farm stage plays which are the longest running series in Canadian theatre history and have played in virtually every English-speaking theatre in the country. The Stratford Festival and Mirvish Productions have hosted his work in several of their seasons. A Wingfield television series ran for many years on CBC, Bravo and PBS.

Dan’s play The Team on the Hill had a sellout run at the Blyth Festival in 2019. The Last Christmas Turkey, a musical he wrote with composer Clive VanderBurgh, set a new box office record for Theatre Orangeville in December 2016 and returned to the theatre in December 2022. He continues to write columns for farm publications and has released his latest book, Finding Larkspur: A return to village life. Dan and his wife live on a small farm near Collingwood where they raise sheep.
